Aregbesola's Fifth Year Anniversary: Gains and Prospects for Future By Badru Asimiyu

Firstly, I congratulate the governor, His Excellency Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on the occasion of his 5th year anniversary in office.
I wish him best of luck and successful regime throughout the remaining three years.

I want to state that my review of the 'O' programmes is holistically informed and in the interest of the governor, the people and government of the state of OSUN.

This piece is the sixth and the final part of my Special Review of Aregbe's five years in office which I dedicated to the month of his fifth year anniversary in office , November.
Today, The governor inaugurated the rehabilitation of the popular Olaiya/Isale Osun/ Ita Olokan road in commemoration of his 5th year anniversary.

This road came under my review under O Road and recommended for immediate rehabilitation.

Godwin, the government has committed to its rehabilitation.

That is commendable and the governor is encouraged to show similar attention to others.

I will now proceed to state his laudable projects and programmes.

1. O Ambulance

This is one of the most successful programs initiated by the governor.

This program is effectively projected and implemented. The quick response of the men of the O Ambulance whenever there is accident on the shores of the state can be described as the type obtainable in the advanced climes.

It is one of the legacies for which the governor shall be remembered in the years to come.

2. O Clean

This is another well packaged program targeted at ridding the state of heaps of refuse and ensure cleaning of the environment among other related responsibilities.

Every forthnight Saturday Environmental day, a major aspect of O clean program has been suspended due to unknown reasons while dumping of refuse anywhere has started returning to the state.

The governor need to look into this situation and restore the program back on track.

3. Security and Communal Peace

This is one of the 6 cardinal manifestos of the governor.

The security of the state has been strongly improved during the period of the governor unlike what was obtainable before his coming.

This was made possible through provision of necessary security aids and formation of special security teams e.g O SAS.

The quick response of the security agents during break out of communal clashes has helped restore peace to such areas e.g. Oba Oke/Oba Ile clash, Asipa/ Ipetumodu clash etc.

The efforts of the governor and the security agencies in this regard are highly commendable.

4. Employment

The regime of Aregbesola employed about 4000 teachers and 500 civil servants in year 2013.

This is indeed a good development in the teaching and civil services of the state.

This has positively impacted on the productivity and economy of the state.

It was a ground breaking achievement as no governor has reportedly had such opportunity to employ that much into the workforce since the state was created in 1991.

5. O Rail Intervention

Another program of Ogbeni Aregbesola that has been widely applauded is the opportunity of free rail ride to/fro Lagos provided for indigenes of Osun coming home during festivals eg Eidul Kabir, Eidul Fitri, Christmas, New Year etc.

Numerous Osun and non-Osun indigenes have benefitted from this scheme since it was started.

This scheme is also targeted at enhancing the economy of the state during festivities as the visitors would spend their money , which would have been spent elsewhere, in Osun.

6. O Markets

The state made a landmark achievement by completing and commissioning of Ayegbaju International Market, Osogbo.

The market was reportedly awarded to a Korean firm at about ‪#‎2billion‬.

At completion, the market was variously categorized eg open space, lock up shops, offices, warehouses etc.

Some of these shops were sold, some leased, some rented, etc.

Other markets yet to be completed include Aje International Market, Mechanics Village, Dagbolu Market, Modern Slaughter Slab etc.

7. Automation of Revenue Collection System

The government was able to raise its internal revenue from about #300 million in 2010 to about #1.5 billion according to the governor.

This was as a result of stoppage of all forms of direct collection of revenue and introduction of automated revenue system by making all payments to government through banks.

On the prospects for his remaining three (3) years ahead, I think the governor needs to be careful of the set of people that will make up his cabinet.

He should be wary of some people who had nothing to offer his government and the good people of the state except milking on the dwindling resources of the state.

A set of objective individuals who have robust ideas that can help proffer laudable way forward to the current economic and financial quagmire affecting the state.

Meanwhile it is high time the governor constituted the state executive council to move the state to enviable height.

Also, the illegal leadership at the local government areas by the executive secretaries and their caretaker members must be dissolved without further delay and conduct local government election in due course.

Some O programs eg O cow, O fish , O bee etc appeared to have permanently failed as there was no information about their results and need to be holistically reviewed.

These projects were allocated funds but the results of these projects were not made public.

Steady and progress is better than rush and failure.

I wish the governor and the state of Osun prosperous years ahead.

Congratulations.

Thanks
