MILITARY EXPLOITS: TROOPS CARRY OUT CLEARING OPERATIONS IN KIRCHA DUNGUS AND OTHER AREAS BORNO STATE - NIGERIAN ARMY

In a follow up operation to ensure proper clearance of suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts and prevent the fleeing terrorists escaping from Operation CRACKDOWN, troops of the 155 Task Force Battalion, carried out a swift clearance operation at Kircha Dungus village and surrounding environment, yesterday evening.

Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed that during the operation, the troops encountered pockets of the Boko Haram terrorists in which they killed 4 of them while few others fled leaving behind 4 women and a child. The troops have rescued and evacuated them for screening and further rehabilitation.

According to Col. Usman, while checking the general area, the troops further discovered a pair of military desert camouflage uniform and a Boko Haram terrorists' flag hoisted in the village. They also recovered a Generator set and water pumping machine.

Troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army have been urged to remain focused, disciplined and committed to duties while routing out insurgents in the North East. The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu stated this while on 3 days operational tour of formations and units within 7 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR).

General Ezugwu while addressing troops of 121 Task Force Battalion Pulka, commended them for the successes recorded by the unit in crushing the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in their locations. He further assured troops that logistics needed for the sustenance of the ongoing operation will be provided. He added that the military is the strength of any nation and urged them to remain dedicated to duty while assuring them that, their efforts will never be in vain.

Rescued Chiboki Girl Amina Ali Nkeki was today accompanied to the State House by her mother, Binta, and her brother, Inua. Three weeks ago, on April 28, 2016, the Nigerian military launched 'Operation Crackdown', aimed at clearing Sambisa Forest of Boko Haram terrorists, in continuation of the Operation, troops of 25 Brigade Damboa in conjunction with Civilian JTF deployed in one of the blocking positions at Baale, near Damboa rescued one Miss Amina Ali and a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to be her husband. Both were brought to Headquarters 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa at about 2.30pm yesterdday 18th May 2016.

Amina Ali Nkeki is one of the Chibok School girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on 14th April 2014 in Chibok, Borno state.

Breaking: Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Nigerian Troops in Harbour

Troops of 21 Brigade and rugged team of Armed Forces Special Forces (AFSF) on Operation CRACKDOWN inside Sambisa forest while on harbour for refitting, came under Boko Haram terrorists attack at about 1.45am today morning. The Military Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed that attack.

According to Col. Usman, the gallant troops however successfully repelled the attack. They further followed up with mopping up operations of the general area before advancing. They also recovered 2 corpses of the attackers and the following items; 2 AK-47 rifles, 2 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, 5 rifle magazines, mortar bombs and a belts of Machine Gun rounds.

Unfortunately 5 soldiers were wounded in action (WIA), as a result of mortar fired into the harbour area by the Boko Haram terrorists. The wounded soldiers have been evacuated to the rear for treatment.

War Against Insurgents: NigerianTroops Arrest Wanted Boko Haram Terrorist Leader, Other Reports

In continuation of Operation CRACKDOWN deep inside Sambisa forest, troops have arrested one of the declared wanted Boko Haram terrorists leaders, and also conducted patrols and clearance operations within the theatre of operations.

According to the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman: "At about 1.35pm yesterday troops of 143 Battalion arrested one Sulaiman Umaru, a suspected Boko Haram terrorists group member whose photograph is on the poster containing the photographs of the 100 Boko Haram terrorists declared wanted. He has since been moved to 28 Task Force Brigade Headquarters for further investigation."

"Troops of 21 Brigade have continued with the clearance operations at Yerimari, while troops of 22 Task Force Brigade Garrison have also embarked on patrols along Dikwa–Mafa-Maiduguri road. The patrol was aimed at picketing the road to keep it safe and open."

Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed that the troops of 26 and 223, Battalions, Army Headquarters Strike Group and Armed Forces Special Forces have continued offensive operations in furtherance of Operation CRACKDOWN. The troops have cleared remnants of Boko Haram in Izza and Njima general area. Although they did not encounter any Boko Haram terrorists, there were noticeable fresh footprints, motorcycle and bicycle tyre marks in the seemingly abandoned places.

However, the troops came across and recovered 8 abandoned vehicles belonging to Boko Haram terrorists. The advancing troops also cleared all Boko Haram terrorists’ hideouts along the way including their camps at Bula Buba and its environs where they recovered 1 Hilux, 1 Canter truck, 15 AK-47 rifle magazines, a 60mm High Explosive Bomb, 200 G3 rifle magazines, 3 Browning Machine Gun tripod stands and a 60mm mortar bipod stand. Other recoveries include several metal links of 7.62mm (NATO) and 12.mm ammunitions.
