What Sir Alex Ferguson Said About New ManU Boss Jose Mourinho

JOSE MOURINHO has always seen Sir Alex Ferguson as a mentor and something of an idol.

Mourinho and Ferguson during
the Portuguese's first spell at Chelsea
The Portuguese, who was officially announced as the new Manchester United manager after months of speculation, has often called the Scottish great ‘boss’ as a sign of respect.

In his first interview as Manchester United manager, Mourinho said he was ready to take over a “giant club” and said he preferred to forget the past three years and instead look at the great years - a reference to Ferguson’s trophy-laden 27 years.

But the pair didn’t always see eye-to-eye.

In fact their relationship was downright frosty when Mourinho first arrived at Chelsea and proclaimed himself as the ‘Special One’.

Here, SunSport looks back to pick out the best - and worst - things Ferguson has had to say about the new Manchester United boss....

Spanish championship: Luis Suárez holds off Real Madrid to claim Liga title for Barcelona

Luis Suárez struck a hat-trick at Granada as Barcelona held off Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired Real Madrid to clinch their eighth Spanish championship in 12 seasons and 24th in all.

Suárez struck a hat-trick as Barcelona wrapped up their eighth Liga title in 12 seasons in style, pipping Real Madrid by a point.

The Merengues were briefly on course for glory after Cristiano Ronaldo gave them an early lead at Deportivo La Coruña. Yet from the moment Luis Suárez put Barcelona ahead away to Granada on 22 minutes the result was never in doubt. The Uruguayan made it 2-0 before half-time then completed his hat-trick just before the end: his 40th Liga goal of the campaign.

Full-time: Real Madrid 1-0 Man City

Real Madrid are through to the Champions League final.

Fernando’s first-half own goal proved the difference as Manchester City slumped to a narrow defeat at the Bernabeu.

City failed to muster a meaningful effort on goal throughout the game as they went down with a whimper.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane revealed that he sees the Champions League final as a "50-50" fixture, after Los Blancosbooked their spot in the showpiece against Atletico Madrid with a win over Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

Real Madrid V Man City: Captain Kompany forced off early in Madrid semi

Manchester City suffered a huge injury blow less than 10 minutes into their decisive Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday as captain Vincent Kompany limped off injured.

The Belgian defender has been blighted by a series of muscle injuries this season and pulled up holding his right leg before being replaced by Eliaquim Mangala. The tie is finely balanced after a goalless draw in the first leg in Manchester last week.

No Deal Between United And Mourinho - Sky Sources

No agreement has been reached between Manchester United and Jose Mourinho over the manager's job at Old Trafford reports Sky Sports News HQ.

Jos Mourinho is reportedly keen on the post should United look to replace Louis van Gaal in the summer.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss reportedly signed agreement with the Manchester United as speculation continues to surround Van Gaal's future despite the Dutchman leading United to their first FA Cup final for nine years and with them still in contention for a place in next season's Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Laurent Blanc is another linked with the post but Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino is out of the running after agreeing a new five-year deal with the Londoners.

Jose Mourinho's First Manchester United Signing Revealed?

Jose Mourinho will reportedly take over at Manchester United next season, and apparently wants to sign a La Liga star for the Old Trafford club.
Marca had previously reported, in February, that the Portuguese tactician will replace Louis Van Gaal at the end of the season.

On Thursday, the Spanish publication again insisted that Mourinho is soon to be unveiled as United's next boss, and he apparently has his eye on a Valencia midfielder.

The former Chelsea boss is said to want to sign Andre Gomes from the struggling La Liga side. The 22-year-old is a client of Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes, and the coach believes the player will soon become hot property.

Champions League: #ManCity need leap of faith against Real Madrid

Until this season Manchester City's progression in the Champions League could be measured in baby steps but on Tuesday they can make a huge leap forward when they host Real Madrid in their first European semi-final for 45 years.

The Abu Dhabi-backed English club have already broken new ground this season, moving past the last 16 stage that proved their limit for the past two seasons having failed even to survive the group stage prior to that.

In seeing off Paris St Germain, who have similar financial muscle, in the quarter-finals they delivered a powerful statement of intent to reach their first semi-final since a European Cup Winners' Cup defeat by Chelsea in 1971.

Brazil 2014: Argentina coach says Nigeria, Iran will fear us

As The FIFA 2014 World Cup kickoff in Brazil, this year  in June,  the Argentine coach Alejandro Sabella is full of confident that his final squad for the World Cup will intimidate opponents as he reveals a combination of Lionel Messi and a strong defence will do the job.

The Group F favourites,  Argentina play Nigeria, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina at the group state and their coach has said the opponents like Nigeria and Iran will have them to fear in the group games. “Our rivals will fear us. Argentina has an amazing front line,” he says on the national team’s official website.

He said; “It’s very hard to be World champions. We don’t have to believe that we are the best. In fact, we know we’re not the best, but we are a candidate. We can’t go into the tournament thinking we’ve won it. I don’t know if I’ll take seven or eight defenders. Depends on whether I include another midfielder. The best thing is to try and cover all the areas. Almost certainly those who are here now will be making it.”

Jose Mourinho confirms he wants world-class star at Chelsea

Mourinho last night hinted for the first time he fears Ashley Cole may leave.

While Cole is out of contract in June, Mourinho has always been insisted that the left-back, like John Terry and Frank Lampard, will be offered new deals.
But with Thierry Henry having suggested Cole should follow him to New York Red Bulls in the MLS, Mourinho’s reply when asked if the defender was happy to stay at Chelsea suggested potential movement.
“That’s another story – that I cannot control,”said Mourinho. “I like the player, I trust the player, I want him to stay. The club is happy with that, so we don’t have a problem.
“But that’s another part of the story that doesn’t depend on us.
“He is out of the team because Cesar Azpilicueta is playing fantastically, not because Ashley is playing poorly. He has played well when he came in, but in my opinion, Azpilicueta is playing fantastically.
“You have to ask Thierry Henry about what he said. Maybe Thierry is doing the same with Red Bulls that David Beckham is doing in Miami and buying that club.
“So, yes, Ashley has got a future at Chelsea. But maybe Thierry has a better proposal.”
Mourinho, meanwhile, revealed he had stayed in touch with Pardew throughout his spell away from English football with Inter and Real Madrid.” (Daily Mirror)
