REPENTANT ARMED BANDITS AND VIGILANTES SURRENDER WEAPONS TO TROOPS OF I DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY

Following the peace initiative by the Zamfara state government together with 1 Division Nigerian Army which started in 2016, repentant armed bandits and livestock rustlers have continued to surrender their weapons to the military in the State.
On Wednesday 8th March 2017, repentant armed bandits and local vigilante group called “’Yansakai” in Ruwan Tofa, ‘Yar Galadima and Babban Doka in Maru Local Government Area, Danwaren Daji in Tsafe Local Government Area, as well as Mada in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, handed over large quantities of dangerous arms and ammunition.

UPDATE ON OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: TROOPS INTENSIFY CLEARANCE OPERATIONS AND PATROLS

In order to sustain the tempo of the clearance operations of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists that are hiding in remote areas and some villages, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have been carrying out ambushes, raids, cordon and search operations in the theatre and northeast generally.

Today, troops of 159 Battalion Artillery Detachment based on information and confirmation on the presence of suspected Boko Haram terrorists at Tula Udah forest, carried out heavy bombardment to neutralize them.

Similarly, based tip off on the presence of foreign elements of Boko Haram terrorists from Chad and Nigeriens, troops carried out cordon and search operations at Gombe International Hotel, Gombe State. However, nothing incriminating was found. However, more vigilance is maintained in the area.

TROOPS CARRY OUT CLEARANCE OPERATIONS IN BORNO STATE

Based on information reports of presence of suspected elements of Boko Haram terrorists, today, troops of 212 Battalion and 233 Battalion, 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, in conjunction with elements of Civilian JTF, successfully carried out clearance operations at Lawanti, Musari, Bori and Gonizalari towns in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.

President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday described the late former governor of the defunct Western Region, Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo, as a true patriot.

In a telephone call from London to the son of the late general and former governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo, the President lamented that Nigeria will surely miss the uncommon patriotism and nationalism which General Adebayo typified.

The President also commiserated with the people of Ekiti State and the entire Yoruba race, noting that the late octogenarian while standing firmly for the unity of the country, also fought for the interest of his people as the President of the Yoruba Council of Elders.

N2.8bn Fraud: Ex-NBC Boss, Mba’s Trial Adjourned to April 4

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned to April 4, 2017 for continuation of trial of Emeka Mba, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, who is facing a 15-count charge of money laundering and procurement fraud to the tune of N2.8billion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Mba is on trial alongside a former Director of Finance of NBC, Patrick Areh; Basil Udotai (trading in the name and style of Technology Adviser) and Babatunde Amure (trading in name and style of Divine Partners)

The adjournment of the case followed the withdrawal of an objection raised by I. F Chude, counsel to the second defendant (Areh), against the admissibility of Areh’s statement which the prosecuting counsel, Prince Ben Ikani sought to tender as evidence at the last sitting, February 28.

On International Women’s Day, I would like to, on behalf of the President, government and people of Nigeria, recognise and appreciate the very valuable work done, and role played by women in our country, over the years, since the struggle for independence.

We acknowledge and value the contributions women are making to national development. They do this daily working within and outside the home as well as in public life. Indeed they sometimes are the sole providers for their families.

To strengthen the economic capacity of Nigerian women, President Muhammadu Buhari personally ensured that the sum of N1.6B was set aside for the National Women’s Empowerment Fund - the Jarin Mata fund.

NIGERIA AND CAMEROONIAN TROOPS CONDUCT JOINT CLEARANCE OPERATION

In order to clear fleeing Boko Haram terrorists hibernating within remote and border areas, Nigerian and Cameroonian troops have carried out another joint operation to weed out Boko Haram terrorists along Nigeria and Cameroon border.

The two days joint operation which was led by Col Dourai and Lt Col Mohaman of the Cameroonian Defence Forces had troops drawn from the Cameroon’s Battalion Rapid Intervention (BRI) and 151 Task Force Battalion of 21 Brigade, Nigerian Army.
