According to Colonel Usman Boko Haram terrorists attack troops of 113 Battalion at Kareto Northern Borno State.
The troops have been battling the insurgents since early hours of today. On Sunday (17-0416) Nigerian military confirmed to have discovered the largest single cache of arms and ammunition in the Alagarno forest in the northeastern part of the country.
The theatre commander for "Operation Lafiya Dole", Major-General Lucky Irabor, who disclosed this at a news conference in Biu in Borno State on Sunday, said the arms and ammunition were hidden in bunkers made by the terrorists in the forest.
"Following a tip-off, troops of 'Operation Lafiya Dole', supported by some civilian JTF (joint task force), today (Sunday) went on a clearance patrol to Borgozo-Alargano general area where they discovered a large cache of arms and ammunitions at Gursum village," he told journalists.
"The patrol team also cleared remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists who were dislodged from the Alagarno Forest and were resting at Kadari, Camp Abu Fatima, and Gursum.
"The troops discovered a large cache of arms and ammunition which included 36 boxes of .51 millimetre calibre, 5 x 20 Lyra beefcake mixture of 7.62 mm ammunition, a large quantity of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and one 81 mm mortar tube. In addition, the troops recovered one Toyota Hilux pickup truck, one generator and several motorcycles.
"It will be correct to assert that this is, so far, the largest single cache of arms and ammunition to be discovered in the North East."
Irabor said the arms and ammunition found were enough to dislodge a sizeable number of any enemy's force. The discovery confirmed the military's earlier assertion that the Boko Haram militant group operates several underground logistic bases in the region.
He said troops operating in other locations in the North East had cleared more terrorist hideouts in the past three days.
Irabor acknowledged the support of the Nigerian Air Force in the recent successes recorded by the military. The ground troops had enjoyed tremendous support from the Air Force aerial surveillance and bombardments.
While the military recorded huge success yesterday, the militant Boko Haram retaliated today by attacking the Nigerian Troops of 113 Battalion at Kareto Northern Borno State . The details and extent of the attack and casualties are yet unknown as Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman who is the military spokeperson promised to give the details later.
Nigerians has however been expressing their confident and support for the Nigerian troops that they are solidly behind them to defeat the Islamist Terrorists.
