Why Aviation Workers Ground Arik Air Operations in Nigeria

Abuja, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) Arik Airline has been forced to stop its operations as protesters from the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) protested against various grievances at the Murtala Muhammed Airport.

Protesters, numbering over a hundred had stormed the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos and successfully grounded the operations of the airline over claims that Arik owes over 62,5 millon dollars to the various aviation agencies.

The union also claimed that the airline owe over 5 months of salary to workers.

Meanwhile, this development has left passengers who have booked flights on the airline stranded at various airports across the country.

Murtala Muhammed internationa airport was remodeled  in 2007 and seven years later more than 20 million passengers had used the airport.
