JUST IN: Senate in closed-door session over the bid by FG to file fresh charges against its principal officers, others for forgery

Set to Amend standing Order of the Senate 2015!

Senate Summons AGF

The Nigerian Senate is currently in a closed-door session over recent events & bid by FG to file fresh charges against its principal officers and others for forgery.

The FG has failed to arraign the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu, before an Abuja High Court on charges of forgery of the Senate Standing Rules used to conduct the election that brought them into office, as principal officers.
Contrary to media report on the arraignment, the federal government has not served the four defendants with the criminal charge as required by law.

The court bailiff was said to have taken the charge to the National Assembly complex on Friday evening, but did not meet the defendants in their offices.

Similar attempt was also said to have been made to serve them on Monday, but it also failed, because he was told that the lawmakers do not sit on Fridays and Mondays.

However, Justice Yusuf Haliru of an Abuja High Court has ordered that Saraki, Ekweremadu, others be served by substituted means.

Saraki/Ekweremadu notice of summons is to be pasted on the notice board of the NASS complex. Arraignment has been slated for d 27th of June.

Information from an insider confirmed that the Senate is set to amend its Rules as "Amendment of the Standing Orders of the Senate, 2015" appears on OrderPaper today

UPDATES:

Senate Debates on Standing Order Rules

Senator Dino Melaiye moves motion on invitation of Saraki and Ekweremadu to court on forgery allegations. He is asked to go ahead.

Melaiye says a one-man dictatorship is about to be enthroned by President Muhammadu Buhari's government through bullying Of Senate. He asks Senate Committee on Judiciary to URGENTLY summon AGF to present facts on alleged forgery of 2015 Senate Rule Book.

Sen Melaiye says if the 2015 Senate Rule Book is FAKE, then the passed 2015 budget, confirmed ministers and Heads of MDA's etc are also FAKE

Sen. Bassey Albert Akpan seconds Sen. Dino Melaiye's motion urging the AGF to be summoned to explain why they are prosecuting Senate Leadership.

Adding his voice, Sen. Ibrahim Gobir says no one can tell senators to choose who they want as their Senate President and the rules to use in doing so.

Therefore, Senate agrees to urgently summon AGF in two days, passes Dino Melaiye's motion saying the 2015 Senate Rule Book was not forged. Adjourns.
