FG Appeals Case Against Justice Ademola, His Wife And A Senior Lawyer

The federal government of Nigeria today filed an appeal against last Wednesday’s ruling of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja which dismissed the 18 corruption and gratification charges against Justice Adeniyi Francis Adetokunbo Ademola, his wife Olabowale Toluwatope Ademola, and Joe Agi, a senior lawyer.

It is asking the Court of Appeal to allow the appeal and overrule the decision of Honourable Justice Jude Okeke and remit the case back to the High Court for reassignment and defense.

N1.4bn Fraud: Jailed Kogi Law Maker, Daudu, Loses Appeal

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal today dismissed the appeal filed by a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly and former Caretaker Chairman, Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of the state, Gabriel Daudu, asking that his conviction for a N1.4 billion fraud by a Federal High Court Lokoja be set aside.

Daudu, who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a 208 count charge bordering on money laundering and misappropriation of public funds, was found guilty of 77 counts by Justice Inyang Ekwo and sentenced to 154 years imprisonment.

Saraki’s CCT criminal trial to proceed day-to-day

Code of Conduct Tribunal's Chairman  Danladi Umar, has directed that the trial of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, will henceforth proceed day to day from today (Monday) until the conclusion of the case. Daily trial will begin 10am and end 6pm everyday.

Umar, who gave this directive at the resumed hearing in the case on Monday, said his decision to conduct the trial day to day was in line with the provisions of section 396(6) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. He gave the directive in response to a request for one hour stand-down by the lawyer who represented the prosecution on Monday, Mr. Gabriel Esegine.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed the appeal by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki

Senator Saraki's appeal to stop his trial at the Court of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) failed as Justice Ibrahim Baba held that the court lacks the jurisdiction to hear the application.

This is the fourth court Saraki has run to since the tribunal began his arraignment. An appeal court in Abuja had dismissed a similar petition last month and the Supreme Court has got a file from Saraki’s lawyers seeking to declare that the CCT cannot continue with the case, given all kinds of cited technicalities.

Jonathan appoints Zainab Bulkachuwa as Court of Appeal President

President Goodluck Jonathan has sent the name of Zainab Bulkachuwa to the Senate for confirmation as the President of the Court of Appeal. Ms. Bulkachuwa is already a judge at the court.

The nomination must be confirmed by the Senate before the judge can be sworn-in. Ms. Bulkachuwa will head Nigeria’s second highest court at a time Nigeria’s judiciary is also headed by a female.
