Breaking News: Gunmen Kill Over 20 In Fresh Southern Kaduna Attack

A senior Nigerian military officer has just confirmed to journalists that more than twenty people have died in a fresh attack by gunmen in the troubled southern Kaduna area.

According to our military source, the latest attack occurred in a village  called Kobin. “Our information is that the attackers came around 1:20 p.m. in the afternoon and started killing left and right,” said the officer. He added that the attackers retreated once a contingent of the military showed up in the beleaguered town.

However, the source explained that the violence further escalated to another town, Gwantu. “Some people were killed in Gwantu, and their corpses are being taken into the mortuary,” the officer disclosed. He stated that soldiers arrested some of the gunmen who were seen with various kinds of ammunition similar to the weapons seized from some of the gunmen arrested after their earlier deadly attack on three villages.

Ex Governor Alao-Akala's Driver Shot Dead By Suspected Robbers

Alhaji Alabi Ajikobi, a driver of the former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, was shot dead on Friday by unknown gunmen in Ibadan.

Ajikobi was shot by suspected armed robbers while returning from the bank where he had gone to cash some unspecified amount of money. Ajikobi was said to have been shot around the Bodija area of Ibadan.

Mrs Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident, said that the deceased was shot and killed on his way from the bank.  ``It is true. We learnt that he went to a bank to collect some money. A man stopped him and had some discussion with him on his way back.

Suspected Fulani mercenaries that have been raiding and carrying out incessant killings in Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states yesterday continued their reign of impunity as they stormed a security meeting holding in a village in Zamfara state and killed at least 40 vigilantes and civilians.

A security source confirmed that the attack occurred in a village called Yar Galadima in Zamfara state. The victims were holding security meeting involving vigilante teams and other stakeholders on how to secure their villages when suddenly the gunmen on motorbikes stormed the security meeting and murdered several villagers.

Army chief: Boko Haram attacks possible in Ogun state

The newly deployed General Officer  Commanding of the 81 division of Nigerian Army, Lagos,  Major-General Tamunomieibi Dibi, yesterday, in Abeokuta, affirmed that Boko Haram insurgency and attacks in the state was possible , urging the Army officers, Ogun State Government and the people of the State not to rule it out.

Dibi made the statement when he  paid a working visit to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, but opined that the Nigerian Army has what it takes to crush the Islamist insurgency and its attacks.

urging the military officers to be security-conscious and report any security-threatening information to the appropriate quarters for quick and necessary actions, noting that security watch and consciousness should be seen as everybody business.

He declared that the presence of Boko Haram insurgents could not be ruled out in any state, cities, villages and communities in any part of the country, charged army and other security agencies to be watchful and on the alert every time to crush any attacks.

An estimated 2,000 Boko Haram insurgents were killed in a combined operation by Special Forces and the men of the Nigeria Air Force on Friday and Saturday in the volatile Sambisa Forest of Borno State, which has become a prominent hideout of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

Punch reports that that would have been a great victory for the Special Forces was, however, marred by an operational misunderstanding between the ground troops and the officers in the Air Force Alpha Jet. Investigations revealed that 20 soldiers are still missing as a result of the operational misunderstanding.

The National Treasurer of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, PTD, Abdullahi Haruna, also known as 63, has been kidnapped by gunmen in Kaduna.

Family sources say the kidnappers stormed Mr. Haruna’s residence near Bibal Hospital in Tudun Wada around 10 p.m. on Friday and whisked him away at gun point.

The kidnappers did not harm anyone else during the operation.
