PRESIDENT BUHARI ORDERS STRONG ACTIONS TO DEAL WITH VIOLENCE IN SOUTHERN KADUNA

President Muhammadu Buhari has, over the past week, given instructions for decisive measures aimed at bringing an end to the recurring acts of violence and destruction in the Southern part of Kaduna State.

On the directive of President Buhari, the Inspector-General of Police was in the region on Saturday and Sunday to assess the situation at first hand. In addition to the conventional policemen deployed in the area, a squadron of mobile policemen has now been stationed there.

The Nigerian army is also in the process of setting up two battalions in Southern Kaduna while the military continues to carry out air surveillance across flash points of the area.

The militant extremist armed group Boko Haram carried out an increasing number of brutal attacks during 2013, which triggered significant new displacement in north-eastern Nigeria. The attacks, as well as heavy-handed counterinsurgency operations, also compounded ongoing inter-communal conflict in the country's central Middle Belt region. There are concerns that the violence may increase as the 2015 elections draw nearer and political allegiances shift.

Boat capsizes in Lagos, 6 drowned, 22 Missing

Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye disclosed that, among the rescued from the Lagos capsized boat, 6 persons have died and 22 others, who also fell of the boat were rescued by local divers.

Farinloye said, “We were told that a boat with 28 passengers capsized around 6pm in the Majidun River. Local divers were said to have jumped into the water and evacuated 22 people.

Despite state of emergency, NEMA says over 1,000 people has been killed in Boko Haram conflict this year

More than 1,000 people have been killed so far this year in three states in northeastern Nigeria worst hit by Boko Haram violence, according to the country’s main relief organisation. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) figures are the starkest indication yet of the increase in bloodshed in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe that have caused growing concern.

Troops stop planned Boko Haram strike in Borno, eliminate 20 of them

The Nigerian Troops in Borno state have stop  a planned Boko Haram attack in some parts of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. 
The Military claims that the twenty members of the Islamist terrorist group lose their live in the encounter. 

President Goodluck Jonathan  has ordered the Nigerian Armed Forces to comb the Rugu Forest and get rid of militants launching deadly attacks in surrounding states.
