"APC demands probe of Ekiti violence, wants killer of defenceless citizen brought to justice"

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the police hierarchy to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into the violence unleashed by armed policemen on innocent members of the party during a peaceful procession in Ado Ekiti last Sunday, with a view to unraveling the cause of the unprovoked attack.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also demanded that the killer of one of the peaceful marchers be identified and brought to justice, as no one has the right to take the life of another for whatever reason.

The re-election bid of Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, got further boost yesterday with the open support of the numerous beneficiaries of his administration’s Social Welfare Scheme for the Elderly.

One of the beneficiaries of the monthly N5,000 stipend for the aged, who spoke on their behalf, Mrs Beatrice Kolawole, said the prayers and love of the old people to the governor would see his re-election bid through.

How Fayemi's convoy was attacked in Ado-Ekiti

The Convoy of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was on Monday attacked in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital by thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Ayo Fayose.

The Governor's convoy came under attack around 6pm when the Governor and his supporters were returning to Ado-Ekiti from a campaign rally in Ekiti East Local Government Area of the state. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode confirmed the suspected PDP thugs numbering about 100 suddenly emerged from Fayose’s Campaign Office, throwing stones and bottles at the Governor’s vehicle and vehicles belonging to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who accompanied the Governor on the campaign tour.
