The Convoy of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was on Monday attacked in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital by thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Ayo Fayose.
The Governor's convoy came under attack around 6pm when the Governor and his supporters were returning to Ado-Ekiti from a campaign rally in Ekiti East Local Government Area of the state. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode confirmed the suspected PDP thugs numbering about 100 suddenly emerged from Fayose’s Campaign Office, throwing stones and bottles at the Governor’s vehicle and vehicles belonging to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who accompanied the Governor on the campaign tour.Oyebode further said; "but for Dr. Fayemi restrained his security aides and party supporters from retaliating, otherwise there would have been some casualties in the attack that lasted a few minutes stressing that some APC loyalists sustained minor injuries in the melee, while some vehicles had their windscreens smashed by stones thrown by the rampaging thugs.”
The Monday’s attack came barely a week after the April 1 attack on some APC supporters by thugs also alleged to be working for the PDP candidate along the Adebayo area of the state capital.
