Details: Why Fayemi and APC Lost Ekiti – by an Ekitian, Tosin Awotesu

I have read a number of commentary regarding the Ekiti gubernatorial election which saw Ayo Fayose emerge as the newly elected Governor of Ekiti State with a landslide victory. I have read people accuse the PDP of rigging the election, an accusation mainly coming from people who do not live in Ekiti and were nowhere near Ekiti during the election. Some have not even been to Ekiti before! Yet, the participants, the people of Ekiti, and those present have all come out to say the elections were free and fair. So, what do these people know, the entire people of Ekiti, Fayemi, Opeyemi Bamidele and election observers do not know? Why trying to heat up the polity again? I believe some of these people may enjoy the shedding of innocent blood to satisfy their sick minds!

Soldiers hold Governor Rotimi Amaechi hostage in Ondo state

Just learnt that the planes of Governors Kwankwaso and Wammako were also prevented from landing in Akure to join the APC campaign train today.

We can also confirm that another flight of cash and PDP rigging material is scheduled to depart from Lagos at about 6pm for Akure, even though the Jonathanian military has unlawfully, illegally and unconstitutionally down the airport.

It appears that the Jonathanian military shall open the airport specially to receive the thumb-printed ballot papers and cash when the movement of everyone has been restricted!

This wanton disregard of constitutional rights, electoral laws and standards of decency shows the extent the Jonathan's administration is willing to go to subvert the democratic rights and wishes of Ekiti voters.

The Jonathanians have forgotten the history of the Western Region when a sitting government tried rigging the 1964 general Elections. They have forgotten what happened to the NPN in 1983 in the old Ondo State which includes the Ekiti State of today.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the police hierarchy to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into the violence unleashed by armed policemen on innocent members of the party during a peaceful procession in Ado Ekiti last Sunday, with a view to unraveling the cause of the unprovoked attack.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also demanded that the killer of one of the peaceful marchers be identified and brought to justice, as no one has the right to take the life of another for whatever reason.

The All Progressives Congress, APC has condemned the violence unleashed on peaceful members of the party at Ado Ekiti on Sunday by the police, apparently acting out a script written by the Presidency
and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to foment trouble in the South-west ahead of the 2015 general elections.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party put the blame for the violence squarely on the shoulders of the Presidency and the PDP, wondering why the police, who are paid by taxpayers to maintain law and order, would turn their weapons on the same defenceless citizens they are paid to protect.

I declared for the APC in June last year in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state well before the party was registered by INEC. I formally joined the party, amidst great fanfare, on 7th February 2014 in my hometown Ile-Ife and I registered my membership on that day.

The registration was done outside the Ooni's palace and it was done in the prescence of the media, numerous party leaders in the state, including Hon. Rotimi Makinde, who represents Ile-Ife at the Federal House, and all the other key leaders of the APC in the state and Ife-Ife including Chief Akantioke and Alhaji Soko Adewoyin the former Deputy Governor of Osun state.

After registering we proceeded to pay a courtesy call on my traditional ruler, the Ooni of Ife, and from there I went to spend a few days with Governor Rauf Aregbesola who, together with Governor Kayode Fayemi, I am close to and I consider to be friends.
