Nigeria Military to protect Ploice Facilities Across the Country as Boko Haram attack Gwoza Police Training Academy

Following an attack on one of the country’s foremost police training institutions, the Police Academy, Gwoza, Borno State by Boko Haram on Wednesday, the Nigeria Police has reached out to the military to protect its facilities in the North.

The military would deploy soldiers to guard police barracks, primary and secondary schools, as well as its training colleges. Besides the college at Gwoza, other NPF training institutions in the country include the police colleges in Jos, Plateau State; Ikeja, Lagos State; Kaduna, Kaduna State; Maiduguri, Borno State; Oji-River and Police Detective College, Enugu; as well as the Police College of Information Technology, Abeokuta.

Others are the Police Mobile Training School, Ila-Orangun, Osun State; Mounted/Dog Training Schools, Jos, Plateau State; Traffic Training School, Ikeja; the Police School of Music, Ikeja; Police Schools of Communication, Ikeja, Lagos and Kaduna; the Police School of Anti-Terrorism, Nonwa-Tai, Rivers State; the Police Training School, Sokoto; Police Training School, Bauchi; Police Training School, Minna, Niger State; and Police Training School, Jos.

Military Siege On The Media: Statement By The Newpaper Proprietors Association Of Nigeria

Following the harassment of newspaper vendors/distributors and the seizure of large volumes of newspapers by soldiers who initially targeted the following newspapers: LEADERSHIP, DAILY TRUST, The NATION and PUNCH, but later extended the siege to all major newspapers in the country for the second day today, the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) held an emergency meeting in Abuja on June 7, 2014 with representatives of vendors and distributors and resolved as follows:
1. The NPAN unequivocally condemns this attack of FREE SPEECH by soldiers, in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Maiduguri, Ibadan amongst other cities, claiming to be acting on "orders". This assault on FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION through the stoppage of distribution of newspapers is inconsistent with the values of any democratic society and the Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. We therefore call upon the military authorities to lift the siege immediately and call the soldiers to order.

Bomb explodes at a football viewing centre along Bauchi Road in Jos, police spokesperson Felicia Anselm confirms. A team of security agencies deployed to the scene of the fresh blast in city has confirmed one person dead in the incident.

Presidency: Jonathan Condemns Jos Bomb Blasts, Approves More Measures To Strengthen Fight Against Terrorism

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan strongly condemns the bomb blasts in Jos, Plateau state, today, describing the perpetrators of this tragic assault on human freedom as cruel and evil.  He has also directed all relevant agencies to mobilize support and relief efforts in aid of the victims. The President extends his heartfelt sympathies to the affected families and persons.

President Jonathan assures all Nigerians that government remains fully committed to winning the war against terror, and this administration will not be cowed by the atrocities of enemies of human progress and civilization.

President Jonathan has also expressed Nigeria’s deepest appreciation to the international community on the success of the recent Summit in Paris on the security situation in Nigeria hosted by the President of France, Francois Hollande.

He reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to the implementation of the resolutions reached by the Summit, in addition to existing measures already being taken by the administration to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of lives.
 

UPDATES: Jos Explosion casualty ‘massive’ – NEMA

The two blasts that hit Jos Terminus Market today in Nigeria’s central city of Jos reportedly killed over 200 people .
According to the reports from Plateau state , the two bombs were concealed inside a truck and a minibus the military said. “There were two separate blasts,” at the New Abuja Market, Pam Ayuba said, referring to the attack at about 3:00 pm (1400 GMT). “We are yet to know the casualty rate,” he added.

“The first IED (improvised explosive device) was in a truck. The second was in a minibus,” said Kingsley Egbo, of the military State Task Force (STF) in Plateau state, of which Jos is the capital.

“The market was really crowded,” he added. “We are having a problem of crowd control… The emergency services have evacuated the casualties,” he told AFP.

Yet another outrage and horrific act has occured. A bomb went off in Kano two days ago and now two massive bombs have gone off in Jos today. My heart goes out to the families of those that have been killed. Sadly the casualty rate appears to be very high. It is now very clear to me that Nigeria is finished.

People are rightly expressing their outrage about today's bombing. They are mourning, sobbing, crying, screaming in horror and lamenting whilst the beasts that are behind these despicable acts of butchery and carnage and that are covertly funding it are secretly rejoicing. We know what their objective is, we know who they represent and we know why they want to make the country ungovernable.

Breaking: Boko Haram Jihadists trails Governor Jang, Compiles list of schools to be attack in Plateau state

A report from Jos, the Plateau state capital indicates that the Governor of the state, Dr. Jonah David Jang is being targeted by the Islamist Boko Haram terrorist group.

The report also has it that a State House of Assembly member, Daniel Dem, is also being trailed by Islamist terrorits, allegedly on the orders of the group’s leader, Sheikh Abubakar Mohammed Shekau. 

Anti-Riot policeman rapes four-year-old girl in Plateau

Anti-riot policeman attached to the Special Task Force in Jos, Plateau State was on Wednesday arrested for raping a four-year-old girl. The girl, simply identified as Helen, was allegedly raped by the policeman said to be a 32-year-old corporal, serving with the STF at Rapum in Kassa area of Barakin Ladi Local Government area.

The little girl was first treated for bleeding at the Barakin Ladi General Hospital and discharged, but by the following morning, the bleeding became so severe that she was rushed back to the hospital.

Special Task Force Foils Planned Attack On Jos Church

Security agencies in Jos foiled a planned attack in Jos on Sunday as hundreds of early morning worshippers in a Plateau church escaped death from some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The gunmen were said to have targeted the church located at Rantya Low Cost area of Nyago Gyel district of Jos South Local Government area of the state.

They had descended the hills and were about to launch their deadly mission before one of the church’s guards was said to have spotted them.

Plateau communal clash: One killed, nine houses razed to the ground

One person was killed and nine houses razed on Wednesday in a communal clash between Shiwer in Kanke and their neigbhours, Pai communities in Pankshin local government areas of Plateau state. One person is said to be still missing.

The two communities have been at loggerheads for over a decade over ancestral lands and there are fears that this might develop into a full fledged war if not checked. Shiwer Community Development Association, at a press briefing in Jos on Thursday said recently, some armed youths from Pai went to Jingling village in Shiwer to cut timber. When the youths from Jingling asked them why, the youths from Pai was said to have attacked them, killing one in the process.

Nigeria: 9 Killed In Fresh Plateau Attack, 3 People Arrested With Ammunition

NAN - The Nigeria Police in Plateau state said nine persons were killed on Tuesday night attack on Angwan-Waran in Riyom Local Government Area of the State.

Plateau state police Commissioner,  Mr Chris Olakpe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Jos on Wednesday that the attackers had fled the area before the arrival of security agents. He said the police and other personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) maintaining the peace in Plateau, had stepped in and restored normalcy to the area.
