Power Supply: Consumers won’t pay after 15 days of power cut – FG

Federal Government, yesterday, said with effect from today, electricity consumers that had no power supply for 15 days in a month are no longer required to pay the monthly N750 fixed charge to their respective Distribution Companies, Discos.

The Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, who issued the directive at a briefing in Abuja, said it became necessary after the commission carried out investigations into complaints from consumers over continued payment of fixed charge even when service is not delivered.

Amadi said: “While the commission has determined that the fixed charge remains an essential component of the bill, it has, however, reviewed the continued retention of the fixed charge component in the tariff and payment of fixed charge in the light of consumer complaints, particularly with regard to continued payment of fixed charge even when the energy is not delivered to the consumer.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR THURSDAY 1 MAY 2014 - "HOW PREPARED ARE YOU?" BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

READ: MATTHEW 25:1-2

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

MESSAGE

Wisdom has been described as the right application of knowledge. This is reflected in a person’s active and constant preparation for success. A wise man prays when others play, fasts when others feast and plans when others loaf around doing nothing. There is no gainsaying the fact that spiritual and physical success depends on active and constant preparation. One who fails to plan has already planned to fail. How prepared are you?

A study of the scriptures will reveal many ingredients for active and constant preparation. These include determination, endurance, seriousness and faithfulness. Determination is an indispensable requirement for spiritual and physical success. This is resolution and firmness of purpose. It takes determination to be successful in life, business, marriage and ministry. How determined are you? Added to determination is endurance.

May Day 2014: Clasping Hands across Borders

By Freedom Socialist Party

The May Day holiday that is now celebrated all over the world, known as International Workers’ Day in many places, was born in the struggle of U.S. anarchists, socialists, and other radicals for the eight-hour day, a fight that often cost these brave workers their lives. The campaign was led largely by European immigrants to the U.S., fleeing poverty and persecution in countries like Germany, Ireland, and Italy.

Many of the fiercest and most important working-class battles today are also led by immigrants and refugees. They come from every corner of the globe, displaced by war, oppression, ruinous “free trade” policies and neoliberalism, and climate change. Many bring a radical perspective with them; others are radicalized by the experience of being a stranger in a strange and often hostile land.
