Fuel-related challenges are nothing new in Nigeria; most of the actors/actresses there now have been around like most of us; however, all this time, for over 30 years now, it appears the imperativeness of domestic refineries and lasting solutions to importation of refines fuels have not been appreciated by Nigerian Govt Officials whose job descriptions center around these issues; because they've been doing nothing serious to forge solutions to palpable fuel crises, whenever there's an escalation, you see them scrambling and fidgeting as they're doing now to find solutions; and of course, the laziest and most convenient solution that wont task the intellects of the Nigerian Govt Officials are the once they will embrace..........let's increase the price of petrol!
The same solution will apply to key food items, sugar, cement, and essentially all essential commodities.........lazy solution that are centered on placing the burden on the average citizen. Haba!! When will Citizen Nigerian ever win?
Price increase is not the solution to Nigerian fuel crises; and using or comparing Nigerian fuels prices to those of industrialized countries with hard currencies cannot be the solution; Nigerians have a huge income disparity with Americans, Canadians, Germans and Brits; so it is criminal to compare the prices that Nigerians and Americans pay for petrol.
Nigerians should not pay more for petrol; petrol crisis nothing new in Nigeria that should require emergency belt-tightening and taxing solutions. Nigerian Govt officials should explore other way to make fuel available at cheaper prices. After all, the outlandish mark-ups and corruption have been the two major factors responsible for the mess we see. If these two factors are controlled, Nigerians will get petrol for at most 50 Naira per liter; that's the reasonable price of petrol for Nigerians.
The imperativeness of local refineries and regulation of importation and prices are viable solutions among global best practices that don't require new or martian technologies [such as powering cars and bicycles with petroleum products] to achieve.
The point is that "price increases" are uncreative, uninventive, non-innovative and cheap; it shouldnt be the first line of action in a SERIOUS society, especially after all these years of looming fuel crisis.

Considering the settings of fuel production, supply and distribution in Nigeria, the current crisis was very predictable. And the responsible Govt Officials should have anticipated the crisis and implement policies to avert the crisis! After all, why are these people there beyond making "deals" to swindle the Common Wealth and live big as the Only Kid in the Block who can ride big cars, take vacations abroad and educate families abroad while the majority of the citizens wallow in miseries and dejection?
Even the Black /paralle foriegn exchange market can never be stable, predictably it will jump higher hence the fuel importers will soon come up with another ploy and pressure that will further pave ways for further high price of the petrol per litre.
