PRESS RELEASE: JAACK BLAST SARAKI, RAFIU ON COSMETIC EMPOWERMENT

Saraki and Rafiu Ibrahim empowerment schemes were distractions as Kwara govt lied on Paris club refund - JAACK

The Joint Action Against Corruption in Kwara (JAACK) has described the Saraki empowerment scheme and its offshoot credited to Rafiu Ibrahim as diversionary strategies aimed at luring away the attention of the citizens from asking pertinent questions.

The group in a statement issued by its organising secretary, Joe Mahmud in Ilorin on Tuesday decried the "increasing appetite for insincerity and impunity by the Kwara State government".
" This government's appetite for insincerity and impunity increases by the day as it is evident on every aspect of governance.

"In the past week as Kwarans were asking questions on the Paris Club refund which the state was due to collect a huge sum of money, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Demola Banu denied receiving anything.

"Only for the government to acknowledge the receipt of N5bn on Tuesday evening with N1bn already approved by the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed as augmentation for the 16 local governments in the state to pay the November salary of their workers.

" The truth wouldn't have come out save for the Kaduna State governor, Mall. Nair El-Rufai who announced the receipt of his state's share from the Paris Club refund during the signing of the 2017 budget in Kaduna. El-Rufai announced that 50% of the state's refund will go into clearing of backlog of entitlement owed pensioners and local government staff since 2010.''

The statement berated the government for allowing residents of the state to be suspicious of all her moves which it described as "perpetually tricky".

" While they were busy distributing Keke to party leaders in Offa like the one received by a former chairman of the 'Saraki family party' from Isin local government and another one by the youth leader of the APC from Kwara South, the governor was in receipt of a whopping N5bn without paying staff of the College of Education, Oro, primary school teachers and local government workers. This is tricky!

"Until we make it an habit to watch every move of this government we may wake up one morning and hear that the state is on mortgage. When did they take the Paris Club loan that the refund is coming now? How much did they actually borrow from the Paris Club? How much is the state due to collect back?, the statement queried.
