THE DAY OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST JOY - Pastor Dr. E.O. Abina

(Luke 2:8-14 NKJV)

Since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and subsequent judgment on their sin, there has never been a day of good news of joy for the world as the day Jesus was born. It was the most joyful news the world has ever heard. As a result of the sin of Adam and Eve, man had been separated from the presence of holy God. Sin separates man from God, because God is totally holy, He has purer eyes which cannot behold sin (Hab 1:13). That was why He drove Adam and Eve from the Garden of blessing and pleasures originally prepared for man at creation. And at the time of the judgment of the sins of Adam and Eve, man was cursed. Sin always brings a curse on the sinner (see Gen 3:17-19). In spite of the mess that Adam made, God did not give up on man because of His love. He promised to send a redeemer who would come to save man from sin so that man may be restored to God (see Gen. 3:15).
Several years had rolled away after God made the promise but He did not forget the promise He made, He fulfilled it at the right time – this was why Jesus was born. Galatians 4:4-5 say: “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons”. And it happened on that glorious day that Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah was born in the small village of Bethlehem according to Matt 2:6: “But you Bethlehem in the land of Judah are not the least among the rulers in Judah; for out of you shall come a Ruler, who will shepherd my people, this is the fulfillment of the prophecy in (Micah 5:2).

So Jesus was born in that small village and the angel appeared to the shepherds in the field and brought the news of the new born Babe Jesus. The announcement brought a great joy to the people of Israel that has been awaiting the coming of the Messiah. The angel that brought the news said to the shepherds: “Don’t be afraid, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour who is Christ Jesus (Lk 2:10-11).

The joy was great that day so much that: “…suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God saying glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men! (Lk 2:13,14). Never has any day been so glorious and joyous like the day Jesus was born in the history of man since the fall in Eden. Jesus was born to save man from sin (Matt 1:21). The name Jesus means Saviour. He came to save humanity from sin, the power of sin and the penalty of sin that He came to deliver man from the curse which sin brought to mankind (see Gal 3:13,14). He came to reconcile man to God, this He did on the cross when He carried our sins on the cross to give us His own righteousness that whoever believes in Him will have the right relationship with God.

That is why whoever believes in Jesus will have joy – the joy of salvation as it happened to the jailer at Philippi (see Acts 16:34). As the prince of peace He brought peace to everyone who believes in Him as the Saviour and Son of God. If you are yet to be a Christian, I promise you that today will be the most joyful day in your life, if you can allow Jesus to come into your life by accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour and by repenting from your sin. You cannot regret you did.

To all believers in Christ, the redeemed of the Lord, I advise you to go out and tell others who have not yet come to Christ your experience in Him since you were saved. Let us believers do what the shepherds did: “Now when they had seen Him (Jesus) they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherd (Lk 2:17,18). If we do the same we will have results and so it shall be well with us.

`FROM THE GENERAL OVERSEER,
Pastor (Dr) E. O. Abina
