Flood Disasters; Aftermath of Apete Bridge Collapse: More than 10 People Confirmed Dead

• Countless of Masses’ Properties are being Damaged and Lost;
• Ido LGA Caretaker Chairman Visited Apete, Stoned by the Residents. *Operation Burst came to his rescue.
• Ajimobi’s Operation Burst in Sporadic Shootings at Apete. *Residents Scampered for Safety;
• Apete Bridge for Completion September —Oyo govt. *Govt is yet to Pay Contractors - Reports!

More details have emerged that over 10 people are now confirmed death when the makeshift bridge constructed by the APC led government of Sen. Ajumobi collapsed. The victims were said to have drowned.

Witnesses said the bridge that links the outer community with Apete was submerged by water after the rain late on Saturday and that the victims were residents of the community who were returning home.The rain which started at about 5:00 pm, lasted a few hours and when it subsided, some of the residents who tried to use the bridge slipped into the river and were washed away.”

Having deliberately refused to heed calls to repair the bridge, the Ajumobi led government should be held responsible for these needless deaths.
The aggrieved residents of Apete community are crying out over the non-reconstruction of the bridge linking them to the rest of the city that was washed away in the wake of the two flood disasters which ravaged the state capital.

With the revocation of the initial contract and non-mobilisation of a new contractor, the residents have accused the government of negligence and insensitivity considering the hardship situation being faced them. They expressed worries that despite government’s assurance that the bridge reconstruction would be a priority, it has failed to give it the desired urgency.

Today, residents have openly re-echoed their disgust and frustrations about the failed promises of Ajimobi on the bridge. Their disgust may not be misplaced. The governor had told newsmen after inspecting the collapsed bridge that he was satisfied with the job done by the contractor, CCECC.
