According to Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, who spoke with journalists briefly after visiting the scene of the crime, investigations will begin immediately on the suspect’s motive for the act.
“The suspect is in our custody, and the vehicle he used for the operation has also been towed to the police headquarters," Shinaba said.
“We will get to know the motive behind the attack, and who sent him on this deadly errand."
He confirmed that a total of 20 people were taken to the hospital, eight of whom died.
“There was an explosion in the school this afternoon and it happened right inside the school premises. That is why we had to move in," he said. I want to confirm to you that 20 people were moved to the hospital, but eight were confirmed dead and 12 others injured."
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast although the insurgent Boko Haram has carried out similar attacks in Kano and other northern states.
This blast is coming in under a week after about 21 people were killed in a blast occurring outside a shop in Yobe state (where people had converged to watch Nigeria’s first World Cup match in Brazil). As a result of that attack, the public viewing of the World Cup has been banned in parts of Nigeria.
The promise of military protection has not stop the daily attacks in the North.
