A legal practitioner, Mr. Owen Nanakumoh said the issue of corruption among public officials had got to embarrassing propulsion in the country.
He insisted that mere suggestion of fighting corruption without severe sanctions is an exercise in futility.
Nanakumoh asserted that the commission would go all out to ascertain who owns what and probe the sources of funds or means of livelihood of such property owners. He stressed that public and private officers both collaborate to perpetrate high-level corruption though shady deals such as bunkering, drug peddling and other fraudulent acts.
“This inhuman greed and incurable disease called corruption has crept from mere corruption drive to a senseless degree of kleptomaniac state. “It is my opinion that when this commission is established and composed, it should be led by fearless, credible and tested persons and personalities who would definitely arrest and cure corruption in the public and private sectors,” he said.
Nanakumoh insisted that assets verification should not be limited to cars, landed properties, companies and bank accounts, both local and foreign, but to other things which are easily hidden.
