HUMAN RIGHTS DAY: ‘STAND UP FOR SOMEONE'S RIGHTS TODAY!’

Justice in Human rights implies that all human beings are born free and equal in rights and that they are endowed with reason as well as conscience and thus, should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. This is reflected with the words that are used commonly, such as: Equality, Freedom, Peace, Hope, Dignity, Rule of Law and Prosperity
Human Rights Day was established in 1948, and ever since that auspicious day, it has stood as the first major stride forward in ensuring that the rights of every human across the globe are protected. From the most basic human needs such as food, shelter, and water, all the way up to access to free and uncensored information, those have been the goals and aspirations laid out that day.

It is celebrated every year on the 10th of December to honor the United Nations General Assembly for declaring the human rights universally. It was officially established in the meeting of United Nations General Assembly on 4th of December in 1950.

This year, Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone's rights! Many of us are fearful about the way the world is heading. Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe. Extremist movements subject people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred prey on our fears. It is undeniable that in today world, humane values are under attack.

We, at the World Assembly of Youth (WAY), go forward on human rights and aim to generate a more just globe by giving power to young advocators from around the world through a grouping of cross cultural human rights, volunteer services and sustained human rights activism associated with NGOs, policy makers and other stakeholders. Recognising the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, all of our programmes and activities are guided by it. We acknowledge the significance of human rights as one of pivotal aspects that needs to be safeguarded as it is the key in solving most of youth-issues and way in advancing progress of youth worldwide.

We must reaffirm our common humanity. By doing so, wherever we are, in the street, in school, at work, in public transport, in the voting booth or on social media, we can make a real difference. It starts with each of us. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, a LGBT person, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence

Our time for this is now! Let us stand for our rights and together, we can take a stand for justice in humanity.
