Kwara Lawmaker, Idris Haliru is dead

A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Idris Haliru, is dead.

Hon. Idris represented Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe constituency of Kwara North. He died in the early hours of today at the official residence in the Legislative Quarters, Ilorin.

The deceased was the son of Sen. Haliru Mohammed from Kwara North.

E-kwara learnt very reliably that the deceased had been battling with a chronic terminal illness for over two years now. He practically spent the better part of his legislative life on the sick bed.

At a point, he was said to have been flown to India for intensive medical treatment.
Although, Hon. Idris was elected in 2011 as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but defected alongside 24 other members of the nPDP to the opposition APC. To underscore the seriousness of his illness, Idris could not physically join his colleagues when they announced their defection to the APC on the 21st January, 2014. He was said to have just sent in a message, through another member from Kwara North, to that effect.

At the time of filing this report, arrangements were being made to inter the remains of late Idris. Meanwhile, there was a mild drama as arguments ensued whether to bury him at the Muslim Cemetery, Ilorin or transport him to his country home for burial.
