A statement issued by the office of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Dr Dlamini Zuma on Friday in Addis Ababa, added that Spain’s Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy-Brey, is also attending.
It said that already the AU Commission Chairperson had arrived in Malabo on Thursday, ahead of the summit. The Summit is being hosted by the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, under the theme “Agriculture and Food Security”.
The statement noted that the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government would be preceded by a session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee.
It would be followed by the session of the Executive Council consisting of foreign ministers of member countries, including Nigeria.
According to the statement, the newly elected Presidents of Malawi, Peter Mutharika, José Mário Vaz of Guinea Bissau and Egypt’s newly elected President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, would address the Assembly during its opening session on June 26.
“In line with the theme of the year, a summit side event on African Agribusiness Forum is scheduled for Sunday, June 22.
“The side event will build on series of consultations to bring out critical agribusiness issues aimed at translating political commitments into concrete actions. “The event is also aimed at accelerating agricultural transformation as engine for inclusive growth and private sector investment in agriculture.’’ (NAN)
