A renowned lawyer and human rights activist Horrace Egbon Dafiogho and his junior colleague identified as Sam Ekwajor were killed in Delta on Thursday, March 27. The lawyers were shot dead on their way to Ozoro where they were supposed to defend suspects in a kidnap case involving a prominent politician in Delta state.
At the time of filling this report, the circumstance surrounding the killing are still unclear.
However, it was gathered that the incident has led to shock and panic among legal practitioners in the state.
“It was last night that I just heard the news and it is very surprising to me. Why would anybody kill a lawyer and an activist who spends his time defending the less privileged in the society?” the National Coordinator of the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence, Oghenejabor Ikimi, told The Nation.
Furthermore, prior to his death on Thursday, Dafiogho had raised the alarm over threat on his life. “He even told the judge hearing one of his cases that his life was being threatened,” said one of his colleagues.
