Fulani Herdsmen: Katsina, Zamfara to convene security meeting over attacks

Gusau – As a way to fight crime and incessant attacks on the villages, Katsina State Government said it had concluded arrangement to convene a special security meeting with the neighbouring Zamfara state on the  ways forwards.

Disclosing this, Gov. Ibrahim Shema  of Kastina state, while in a meeting with his Zamfara counterpart, Gov. Abdulaziz Yari, at the Government House, Gusau, said it become imperative to find a solution to the every day attack on the people of these area that cut across the two states. Expressing the concern of the two state governments over the increasing criminal activities where large number of heavily armed hoodlums invaded villages, maimed and killed several community members.

NAN reports that Shema was in the state to receive the Fulani title of Lamido Fulbe (Head of Fulani) of Gusau from the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Kabir Danbaba, on Saturday.

Shema said security effort would particularly be placed on the Rugu forest of Katsina State and other suspected criminal hideouts in the two concerned states. “We will not allow these criminals to overpower us and I will like to assure our people that very soon they will witness positive changes on security issues,’’ Shema said.

The Governor  who also disagree that Fulani people could not be said to be perpetrating and organising the attacks as alleged, confirming that the Fulani were known as peace loving people. “The Fulani are more concerned about their herds, their wellbeing and moving the nation forward,” he said.

In the same manner , Zamfara state Governor,  Abdulaziz Yari  expressed his government’s readiness to cooperate with Katsina state to curb the alleged Fulani criminal activities and ensure security of lives and property. He said “These killings must be stopped by all means and all those involved be brought to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Zamfara Governor expressed confidence in the security partnership between the two states, noting that it would further bring more development to the two states and peace to their people.

Yari also called on other neighbouring states to join hands with them so as to make criminal operations highly impossible in the area.
