The Nigeria Police Boss, IGP Mohammed Abubakar, on Tuesday ordered the release of over 16,000 police officers for promotion and election security course accross Nigeria. The officers, while on course, are expected to undergo an intensive training on election protection duties.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar, has endorsed the training for the men and officers of the force as part of a proactive measure by the Nigeria Police to ensure a violent free election in 2015.
According to him, the course will run concurrently in various police training institutions across Nigeria and would also equip officers with new skills in standard operational rules of engagement in election security.
Frank Mba affirmed that the police boss also expected the promotion to boost the morale of these officers and help in their optimal performance in field operations.
Congratulating the selected 16, 691 officers, IGP assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police will continue to strategically adopt the best approaches in ensuring the security of lives and property as well as protecting the integrity of all elections in the land, saying that the Nigeria Police Force will contribute its part to the democratic sustainability of the Nigeria state.
