Threat of More Attacks: Curfew In Makurdi Markets

Following widespread fears that gunmen have planned to unleash terror on Makurdi town, the Benue State government has placed curfew on markets in the metropolis. The secretary to the state government(SSG), Dr David Salifu who announced this yesterday said the situation was prompted by the security challenges and frequent attacks faced by the state. The markets include Wadata, Wurukum and Modern Markets.

According to Salifu, the prohibition of commercial activities is part of government’s security measures to take preventive measures against the attacks. He said the markets should operate between 6am and 7pm every day.
Many parts of Makurdi town were alerted and served with letters indicating that the invaders will be carrying out fresh attacks on the state capital and environs. But Salifu said the administration of Governor Gabriel Suswam had taken the issue of security seriously particularly now that the state had come under incessant attacks and insisted that the aim of the curfew was to enhance prevention of further invasions.

He further assured that the lives and properties of the residents will be protected and urged them to go about their normal business but report suspicious movement of persons to appropriate security agencies.
