The Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, in his resumed trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal yesterday, accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of tampering with the assets declaration form he submitted on assumption of office as governor of Kwara State.

He made the submission through his defence counsel, Mr. Paul Erokoro (SAN) who was cross-examining the prosecution witness, Michael Wetkast yesterday.

Erokoro said since the property at No. 15a&b Mcdonald Road, Ikoyi Lagos that EFCC accused Saraki of anticipatorily purchasing was not purchased and paid for till 2008, five years after the form was filled in 2003, then “logic tells us the Exhibit 1 has been tampered with.”
The witness said he maintained his testimony of April 5, 2016 on the records contained in the form on assumption of office in 2003, that the defendant declared that he bought No. 15a &b Mcdonald, Ikoyi, Lagos sometime in year 2000 through his company Carlisle Limited whereas findings revealed that he bought the said property through his company TinyTee Limited in 2006.

Earlier, Wetkast told the tribunal that Saraki was worth over N4bn before he became governor of Kwara State in 2003.

He said according to Exhibit 1, Saraki was worth about $22m, 12m pounds sterling, Euros 2.6m and about N4bn before becoming governor. Justice Umar adjourned the trial to continue today.
