"Revenge and justice are NOT the same thing. And will NEVER be." - Anon
My dear Senate President,
You have to resign and go.
I am not asking you to resign because I agree with those baying for your political blood. They are worse than you. In all aspects. But you are not better either. I hate the politics of you and your late father in Kwara State. Your father elevated the politics of subservience and fiefdom to criminal level. You built on it and surpassed him.
In 1979, your father supported the late Adamu Attach for governor and he won. Both were in the NPN. Your father went to the Senate but he won't let Attach have peace of mind in Ilorin. By 1981, the two had fallen apart beyond repairs. What did your father do? He pitched his tent with Cornelius Adebayo of UPN and the latter won and became governor.
Fast-forward 16 years later. Your father supported Mohammed Lawal, a retired rear admiral, equivalent of a major general, and he became governor. But again they fell out. Kwara became almost ungovernable. "Up Lawal", a group of roughnecks set up by Lawal unleashed mayhem on Ilorin in the battle of supremacy with your father. Your father too responded. While he could not match Lawal in violence, he showed him he was a better politician and owner of Kwara. He moved to PDP from ANPP and presented you as candidate. You won.
But an institution suffered. Your campaign was funded with depositors' money at Societe Generale Bank, a bank owned by your family. The bank was dire straits when you became governor. What you did was to try to move Kwara State funds from Trade Bank (owned by the state government to Societe). But Kwarans vehemently opposed it. And Societe died and with it many depositors lost their money. Before man and God, you deserved punishment for this. But you walked free because this is Nigeria. In 2011, you moved against your father. You retired him from politics when his candidate for governor bit the dust.
As governor, you held sway. You became a power broker as chairman of Governors' Forum. You always held the president by the scrotum. Amaechi took over from you and continued where you stopped.
Then came the epochal August 31, 2013 convention of PDP. With five governors, you moved from the party to form nPDP. Before then, you worked against your party by ensuring that its choice, Murtala Nyako, did not become chairman of Governors' Forum. Your party lost, you won. When you moved to APC, you became their hero; nemesis of a hapless Goodluck Jonathan. But a betrayer will always cry last.
You worked hard for APC victory. They knew that. They also knew where your usefulness would end: March 28, 2015. But you did not know. You thought you would always have your way. You went ahead to contest for Senate Presidency against the wishes of those who felt they owned the party.
Through subterfuge and brinkmanship (which they mischievously called dishonesty as if they too had not used such means in the past), you won. They were bitter. Very bitter. But you should know you have so many skeletons in your cupboard to survive. Tambuwal got away because they had nothing they could use against him. In your case, they have many. So many.
When they backed you in solidarity against EFCC and Special Anti-Fraud Unit in 2013, they knew those charges were real. They knew you were guilty of them. But since you were a political asset to them then, they had to stand for you. TODAY, YOU HAVE BECOME LIABILITY TO THEM.
It is same charges they too are using against you today.
That's is why this your trial is not about search for justice for poor Kwarans you impoverished. Nor depositors at SGBN. Or the assets you illegally acquired. Or the pension you draw in Kwara (their own is WORSE in Lagos. N700m is the annual value). Or the cash deposits you made from stolen money.
IT IS ABOUT REVENGE. AND REVENGE AND JUSTICE ARE NOT THE SAME. But you have to go!
