Crimea referendum to join Russia

Crimea votes Sunday in a referendum to break away and join Russia.

International community has described the process as illegitimate.

Here are some relevant information about the vote:

99 percent of the polling stations for Sunday's vote are ready. Polls are open from 8am-8pm local time (06 GMT- 18 GMT)
Starting at 11 GMT of Saturday, no political campaigning can take place. Political parties can only urge people to cast their ballot.

Throughout polling day, the Commission will publish voter turnout numbers. Exit polls will be compiled by the "Crimean Republic Institute for Social Research".

Exit polls will be released after polls close at 8 pm (18 GMT).

Journalists with accreditation will be given access to all polling stations.
Around 30 election monitors from 27 countries including the EU and the US will be in place. 1,000 monitors from Crimean NGOs and political parties will also be in place.

1,512,000 ballot papers have been printed, equal to the number of people eligible to vote plus 1 percent.
The cost of the referendum vote is put at $1.7-million.
The referendum costs are being met from Crimea's budget.
