Although there have been speculations in the past weeks that Adeleke, who hailed from Ede, would join the race, the declaration is seen by many as a game-changer in the political calculation in the forthcoming election.
The Party Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa initially summoned the new entrant into the governorship race, Isiaka Adeleke to report to the party’s secretariat today in Osogbo to explain his role concerning his much touted ambition to run for governorship ticket on the party’s platform.
At the end of the meeting, the visibly elated Adeleke display his expression of intention form to his admirers who accomplished him to the party secretariat.
Earlier, the rumour of his intention to contest for the Osun governorship race has caused social media war between his supporters and those of other contestants within the party who claimed that he (Adeleke) has not been a financial member of the party for a long period of time now.
There were speculations that the sudden intention of senator Adeleke to contest also has the backing of President Goodluck Jonathan which may not go well with other contestants and their supporters within the partyIndications emerged and confirmed that the PDP in the state is set to tackle the President Jonathan’s led PDP over the interest of the latter to anoint Senator Isiaka Adeleke as the party’s flag bearer in the forthcoming governorship election in the State later this year.
President Jonathan who may have throws his weight behind Senator Adeleke candidacy, due to his conviction that the party could only thrive in the atmosphere of peace in the state which is one of the cardinal of his government.
Meanwhile, Senator Adeleke Isiaka while in a town hall meeting yesterday in Ede, Ede North Local Government Area, said he would work for the unity of the party and ensure that PDP will consolidate on the present administration achievements.
Investigation revealed that many youths in the party are saying that the President’s decision is not binding on them as far as they are concerned. They said that Omisore has been the financier of the party all these while and not Adeleke who has distance himself from the party activities
They said it will amount to duplicitous and ungratefulness to now imposes a man that has done nothing for the party as its flag bearer.
But the former senator is joining the governorship race on the platform of the PDP less than a month to the primary of the party.
The PDP primary has been scheduled to hold on April 5.
While obtaining party's intention form, Adeleke promised to bring government into an harmonious relationship with community leaders, workers, leaders, youths, students organisations,trade unions and other stakeholders.
The statement reads in parts, “Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke met with community leaders in his home town, Ede, on Sunday and declared that he decided to join the race to serve as governor of the state, after deep reflections on the present situation of the state and the need to restore the glorious vision of the state’s founding fathers.
Also earlier, Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Bola Ajao, said that the leadership of the party was not aware of Adeleke’s intention. And that the party had said in a statement early in the year that the three governorship aspirants of the party were Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and Wole Oke.
Ajao said, “ We are not aware that Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke has joined the governorship race. We are hearing the rumour like everybody. Those who signified their intention to contest are three. “As far as we are concerned, Alhaji Adeleke has not been a financial member of the PDP in the state in the past two years.”
