Babalola made the assertion when the new Commander, Provost Unit of the Division, Col. D.A. Abubakar paid him a courtesy call on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at his office in Enugu.
“ We have had a robust relationship with the Nigerian army and because we are children of the same father; the federal government ,we don’t have any choice than to synergize and cooperate as security is a serious business.”
He assured that EFCC was ready to assist the Army in the area of training and investigation.
“ The involvement of the Commission in the investigation of how funds budgeted and donated by government and international donor agencies for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the south east, were utilized is a clear testimony to this kind of cooperation we are talking about.”
The EFCC boss while praying for wisdom and understanding in the discharge of his duties, urged the army commander to note that his office was not only powerful but also sensitive hence the need to exercise caution.
Earlier while addressing his host, Col. Abubakar said he was at the EFCC to seek for a closer collaboration between EFCC and the army in general and his unit particularly.
“ Being the police of the army and bearing in mind that we do a lot of investigations and other related work,we are here to seek for cooperation in areas of mutual interest”, he stated.
On the issue of high handedness of some army personnel in dealing with civilians, Abubakar said those found guilty of brutality are usually dealt with.
“ These activities are not tolerated and those involved are appropriately sanctioned however, it is important for Nigerians to know their boundaries in what they wear as these pose a lot of security risk and there is a law condemning the use of military gear by civilians.
