These resolutions were the climax of an emotion-filled debate led by the Senate Leader, Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, who noted Red Chamber’s grief over the inhuman abduction of the Secondary School Girls in Chibok, Borno State.
He added that just when the country was nursing its grief over the rush hour bombing of a bus station in the nation’s capital which killed over 70 people and wounded dozens more, the country was struck again with another devastating blow. He expressed disappointment that two weeks after their disappearance, the girls’ whereabouts are still unknown.
He disclosed that about 40 escaped from either the truck that was conveying them or sneaked out of the abductor’s camp deep inside the Sambisa Forest. He stressed that besides the uncertainty over the fate of the innocent girls whose only crime was to go to school, there is lack of authentic information from the school authorities, the security agencies and their parents on the exact number of girls that were abducted.
Lending his voice, Sen. Ahmed Zanna said the abducted girls have crossed the Nigerian border into Chad and Cameroun in groups. He revealed that the insurgents have sacked more than 40 island inhabitants along the Lake Chad Basin and expressed his doubt on the ability of the military to contain the activities of the insurgents.
Other Senators who contributed in support of the motion included Sen. Ganiyu Solomon, Sen. Nenadi Usman, Sen. Muhammed Ali Ndume, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Sen. Helen Esuene, Sen. Zaynab Abdulkadir Kure, Sen. Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, Sen. Mahammed Magoro, Sen. Osariemwen Uzamere, Sen. Kabiru Gaya and Sen. Ayogu Eze.
