The prophet -peace be upon him- said: “a true believer is never stung from the same hole twice”. The Caliph Muawiya said: “there is no wisdom without experience”.
Today, we all know that any medical Doctor that will prescribe the same antibiotic while treating a bacterial infection that refuses to subside needs his certificate to be reexamined. These words of wisdoms have a lot to say about our government and legislators. It is unbelievable that we as a nation have sunk so low that even common sense is a rare gem to be found.
Was not the chief of army staff ordered by the same legislators to relocate to Maiduguri weeks before the abduction of the innocent school girls in Chibok? Virtually, the legislators here had to assume the position of the C-in-C from what they observed of the callousness of the government recognized even internationally. We are then in trouble. A knife in the hands of a madman on a market day!
With the good news that a vigilante group was able to repel a BH attack on their village yesterday inflicting a lot of fatality and causalities among the dreaded sect has proved one thing. The Government and the military in particular were never truly fighting them all these years along. All we had were lies, deceit, blackmails and concealments of crimes against humanity and atrocities committed against civilians (some video images have already surfaced).
To effectively fight an outlaw gang does not need any state of
emergency. In fact much publicity (the press should be embedded with the fighters) and free communication are essentials. The state of emergency is only useful in aiding the concealment of crimes and the continued suppression of populace. The fact that villagers have ignored this fantasy state and counter attacked to protect their lives and properties by taking the laws into their hands vindicate the USA Sen. McCain who just recently said that practically there is no government in existence in Nigeria. We know that anarchy is worst than autocracy. Nigeria has never had this qualification of ‘excellence’ in 100 yrs of its existence. Thanks to the parochial Nigerians.
How sad living in a jungle. How sad for us to realize that we are held to ransom by armed groups in various forms and formations. How sad for us, that many still don’t see the light except through ethnic or sectarian prisms. Muslims and Christians, the North and South are all in a mess. Only a few are trotting in person jetliners while the whole nation is sunk in want. Want of food, medicine, security, education and good leadership.
We therefore call on the senate to do the right thing this time. Let it has faith and wisdom. Don’t extend the state of emergency rather it should create a special powerful committee to oversee the military in this war as we should never allow the situation in which villagers will start arming themselves to protect their very survival and existence- it will later breed a greater anarchy. Anarchy of mosaic armed conflicts. They say: A word is enough for the wise.
May Allah Heal this Nation for us and generations yet unborn. Amin
