MY LAST RESPECT AND SINCERE EULOGY TO ONE OF THE FINEST BRIGHTEST STAR OF HIS GENERATION; OUR DEAR LATE COMRADE TUNJI BRAITHWAITE

The death of Comrade Dr Tunji Braithwaite came to me as a shock. But it was not unexpected because I know for years now; one of our great leaders of the Yoruba Nation had not been finding it easy with having a regular condition of good health.

Although, Baba will be said to had lived well into relatively an old age, but one of this great scion of Africa and a deep contributor to Pan-Africanism left us when we needed his elderly courageous advise and sound moral supports for the liberation of all indigenous Nations in Africa. He was one of the best of his generation. This great identifier of revolutionary fighters and indefatigable intellectual conscience and mirror of Society, laid some solid foundation which we, their heirs, will continue to hold sacrosanct and uppermost in all our engagements with the oppressors in all manifestations and struggle Contestation.

OPINION: Politicians in my country

Politicians in my country fool you to believe they respect the ballot. Whereas, Bayelsa/Rivers' killing spree is replicated, to a large extent, everywhere in this country. It is the power of bullets , monetary inducement, so THE PEOPLE are conquered.

The struggling masses can only enjoy those functions outlined in our constitution; security of lives and welfare, by staying alert to beat the politicians at their own game. We must be rebellious to all forms of injustice, including fuel scarcity.

PRESS STATEMENT: PRESIDENCY DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM ‪#‎ISTANDWITHBUHARI‬GROUP

The Presidency formally dissociates itself from the #Istandwithbuhari advocacy group and demands that the group should immediately stop claiming any alliance with the Buhari Administration.

The Presidency also demands that the persons behind the controversial #Istandwithbuhari group should stop using President Muhammadu Buhari's name and that of his wife, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to promote themselves and their activities.

Among other reasons, we have found it necessary to distance the Presidency from the #Istandwithbuhari group because its premature and ostentatious celebration of the present administration's achievements is totally inconsistent with President Buhari's philosophy of service with humility.

CCT Dismisses Saraki's Application, Trial begins April 5th.

Code of Conduct Tribunal has againg dismissed an application by the senate president, Bukola Saraki, for false asset declaration charges against him to be dropped.

The lawyer to the Senate President, Barrister Kanu Agabi, had argued that the 13-count charge was invalid procedurally because the Code of Conduct Bureau which filed the charges, failed to allow Mr. Saraki explain discrepancies in his assets declaration forms as required by law.

However, the chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar, in his ruling Thursday said there was no breach of law as the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, 1989, still allows the senate president raise his clarifications at the level of the tribunal. Mr. Danladi said by law, the CCB could receive complaints of breach of the Act and refer such complaints to the Tribunal, provided that it will allow the person involved to give a statement affirming or denying the said misconduct.

Also, upholding the argument made by the prosecution, Mr. Umar said Section 3 (e) of the 3rd schedule of the 1999 Constitution gives the bureau the right to receive complaints of such nature and where necessary refer such matter to the tribunal.

According to Mr. Danladi, Section 174 of the Constitution also gives the Attorney General of the Federation the prerogative to file criminal proceedings and does not owe any explanations to any one on how to go about it.

He therefore ordered the continuation of the trial.

THE SMELL OF TRIVIA - Garba Shehu

A good number of the reactions to President Muhammadu Buhari’s announcement that Nigeria has joined the Islamic Coalition Against Terrorism, show quite clearly that many Nigerians do not fully understand the president’s motives for this decision. With the rise of the Boko Haram Terrorist group of the past few years, Nigeria faces a threat such as no other in its entire history and existence. Desperate times require desperate, unusual, measures.

The girls in Gwoza who were raped by militants do not care where the help comes from as far as they will eventually be able to move about freely without fear of being kidnapped and used as sex slaves. The mothers in Bama whose sons were slaughtered before their eyes do not worry whether Boko Haram is defeated by a Christian or Muslim coalition. The hundreds of thousands in IDP camps are concerned simply about when they can safely return to their homes and resume their normal lives. For these ones most hard hit by the Boko Haram terrorists, whether the help they so desperately need comes from the United States of America or from Saudi Arabia does not matter.

WHO IS YOUR HERO(INE)?

Ask me who in Nigeria today represents one of the best we can offer. My straight answer will be this (young) 'hairless' woman in the picture below. I refer to her as young not because I know how old she is but she isn't a shrunken old woman that she couldn't choose other careers like many. I don't begrudge career people but simply saying there are multitudes of more financially rewarding options available and staring at her. But she instead sold herself to service to humanity.

I don't know what has drawn this beautiful human being into the assignment she willingly threw herself into - caring for the abandoned and handicapped children in our midst. Only a few days ago she was called to pick up another vulnerable one in our midst who was abandoned in the bush by whoever her family may be. There are many amongst us who can't even care for their own able-bodied children, leaving the job to househelps. There are many that God sent into homes without mothers/fathers as stepmothers or stepfathers, who rather than care and invest in their stepchildren would rather make their lives hellish. There are many who rather than offer help to others would deny and dispossess them of the little.

BREAKING: Obama in Cuba, tells Cubans they should be free to speak without fear

A policy of isolation designed for the cold war had no place in the 21st century - Obama

'I have come to bury the last remnant of the cold war'  says President Barak Obama.

Obama then quotes José Martí: “I’m growing a white rose.” He then says he comes with a word of peace. “Havana is only 90 miles from Florida but to get here we had to travel a great distance, over barriers of history, of ideology, barriers of pain and separation,” he says.

Obama then describes the long and tortured history between nations: the Cuban missile crisis, the cold war, the history of colonialism.

“One constant was the conflict between the United States and Cuba. I have come here to bury the last remnant of the cold war in the Americas.”
