LAUTECH: Now That The Fallen Empire Has Refused To Rise - PART 1

By: Apagunpote Olayimika Chocomilo

I have restrained myself from writing about LAUTECH's unfortunate saga that has engulfed the activities of this great institution for months. It's deliberate. The reason is not far fetched. Students are tired of reading epistles, they want to read their books and the unintelligent approach employed in resolving LAUTECH's crisis through political visits by students and external contributors are reasons why I kept mute because the reopening of LAUTECH lies with the visitors and member unions and this could be only achieved through shifting of grounds by both parties. This article is meant for the wise and intelligent ones; if you are not one, do not bother to read it at all.

Why Russia condemns U.S. missile strike on Syria, suspends key air agreement

Putin’s spokesman said the Russian president considered the attack an attempt to distract attention from the heavy civilian casualties caused by a U.S.-backed offensive to capture the northern Iraqi city of Mosul from the Islamic State group.

Russian president Putin

MOSCOW — Russia on Friday condemned a U.S. missile strike against Syrian government forces as an attack on its ally and said it was suspending an agreement to minimize the risk of in-flight incidents between U.S. and Russian aircraft operating over Syria.
Even as Russian officials expressed hope that the strike against Syrian President Bashad al-Assad’s forces would not lead to an irreversible breakdown in U.S. relations with Moscow, the Kremlin’s decision to suspend the 2015 memorandum of understanding on the air operations immediately raised tensions in the skies over Syria.

What Will a Restructured Nigeria Look Like?

The most important task before us right now is envisaging what a restructured Nigeria would look like. We have agreed that Nigeria needs restructuring based on the principles of federalism. The next big question should be; what should a restructured Nigeria look like? This is what I have set out to answer in this lecture.

How should responsibilities be shared between the federal and state governments in a restructured Nigeria? We believe it will be inappropriate for us as a Movement to impose regions or even states on the people of Nigeria. This is why we believe the people (ethnic nationalities) themselves must be given the opportunity to decide whether they want regions or states as the federating units. Whatever the case may be, these twenty rules must be followed. To answer these questions, we have drawn up twenty rules that should guide us in our debate. Find below the twenty rules that we consider as fundamental to a two-tier system of federal structure and which we think is best suitable for a country like Nigeria.

Like Jonathan Like Buhari: A Packaged Lie Sold To Us By APC Ponzi Scheme

Going by the same parameters which we used to conclude that Goodluck Jonathan ran a corrupt government and by extension was a corrupt president, we can now confidently say that President Buhari runs a corrupt government and by extension is a corrupt president. I will explain.

Up till today, those of us who called Goodluck Jonathan a corrupt leader based our allegations not necessarily on his person but on the person and lifestyle of his appointees. We did not appoint his ministers and appointees, he did. So when they (his appointees) become corrupt and he does nothing about it, we simply conclude that the man who appponted them is complicit. Perhaps they are stealing for him and on his behalf. Whatever Dasuki did, Jonathan should be held responsible. That is the standard way to judge elected leaders.

My about-to-expire Nigerian passport - Kaduna experience

So I decided to renew my about-to-expire Nigerian passport in Kaduna, believing that the NIS passport office there would be less crowded and thus more efficient than the one in Abuja. I had previously taken advantage of visits to Nigeria to renew my passport, so I expected this to be routine. Boy, was I mistaken.

The first day was smooth. The NIS folks ushered me in, gave me a spot to park, and one of them accompanied me to the right office where I submitted my old passport, paid the N24,000 fee they demanded (I simply obliged as I didn't know the prevailing official rate), and supplied the information they requested. They did not even give me a receipt but I didn't want to be fussy or tick them off.

The NIS officer who accompanied me then asked me to expect his call later in the day when they would be ready for me to come back for the biometric capture. Sure enough he called around 3:30 pm and I immediately headed back to the passport office and got my biometric data taken after a brief wait.

I wanted him to corroborate or refute some information I have. He did corroborate all my priors with the exception of Mallami on Saraki! Here is what I know.
